About GCSE Computer Science

This curriculum equips students with a strong foundation in computer science, from understanding algorithms and data to mastering network principles and addressing societal impacts of digital technology.

Our program offers a well-rounded and practical approach to teaching students essential digital skills. Here's a breakdown of the key points we will be focusing on at Horizon Learning:

Computational Thinking

Students will develop computational thinking skills to understand computer systems, design, implement, and analyze algorithms for problem-solving. This includes tackling various computational problems and substantial tasks.

Data

Students will learn how computers store and manipulate data using binary representation for different data types.

Computers

Students will become familiar with the hardware and software components of computer systems, recognizing that computers take many forms, from microprocessors to distributed clouds.

Networks

Students will understand the principles of computer networks and the internet's role in modern applications. They may experiment with setting up simple networks and learn about IT security threats and protection methods.

Issues and Impact

Students will explore the influence of digital technology on society and recognize associated issues and impacts.

Problem Solving with Programming

In practical programming tasks during examinations, students will use the Programming Language Subset (PLS) document provided by their teacher to solve problems.
